Today I wanted to talk to you a little bit more about what functional medicine actually is.
Functional medicine, by definition, is a systemized approach which identifies the underlying root causes of health concerns, while building a therapeutic relationship with the patient. It’s been around for 30 years but it’s very new to the healthcare system.
When we evaluate someone, there’s 3 main components to a functional medicine approach:
- Biochemical Individuality (Everyone is different)
- Lifestyle Factors

The main thing that we need to understand is that nothing good comes from guessing what needs to be done or going off of symptoms. Symptoms can be very misleading. Proper testing needs to happen to identify the underlying root causes.
We need to look at gut health. We need to look at good and bad bacteria. We need to look at inflammation markers. We have to stop assuming before testing.
When we aren’t doing the proper testing that’s needed in discovering these root causes, we’re wasting the patients time, money, and most importantly their health. The longer that something goes unchecked or unresolved, the worse things can and most likely will get.
Our goal is to help you address these issues so you can live healthy and happy lives at your full potential.
